Dear Editor-in-Chief,
Congratulations on the 5th anniversary of Global Mirror!
I’m a regular reader of your newspaper. I like it so much that I hardly miss any copy.
There are many advantages of Global Mirror. Firstly, Global Mirror covers both national and international news. By simply turning the pages, I can know all important things that have happened both home and abroad. Besides, the success stories of world-famous people are also attractive to me, which help me learn a lot from them. In a word, thanks to Global Mirror, we are well-informed and keep up with the changing world.
As a young student, I wish that I can be a master of English language. Therefore, I suggest that Global Mirror provide articles about English learning for us.
Finally, I hope that Global Mirror will become more and more popular. Thank you for your time!
Sincerely yours,
Li Hua

Dear Sue,
I’m Li Hua, one of your students in China. It’s almost a month since you left us. We all miss you and are very grateful for what you did for us.
We are busy as usual. We had an English speech contest the other day. I won the first prize! This again reminds me of all your kind help. Do you still remember the trees we planted together on the hill behind the school? Yesterday, we went there and watered them. The tree you planted yourself is growing well, and the whole class decided to name it Sue Wood. Will you come back to see Sue Wood?
How is everything with you lately? We hope to know more about you and your American students. Hope to keep in close touch.
All the best.
Yours
Li Hua

I am twenty-three years old and have an honors degree in Botany from Bath University. Since leaving university I have been working in a research laboratory but my contract comes to an end in six weeks. I would particularly like to join the expedition for the opportunity it would give me to study the plant life of the area. I enjoy several outdoor activities including rowing and rock climbing and I consider myself to be both fit and healthy enough to undertake such an expedition. If you would like me to attend an interview, I would be able to come at any time convenient to you, (J1) my employers have agreed to give me time off for the purpose. I look forward to hearing from you.

Dear Zhang Hui,
I have received your letter of August 15. I’m surprised to learn that you have lost heart in your English and that you want to give it up.
In my opinion, English is an important subject for us middle school students. It’s wrong for you to give it up. I hope you’ll go on studying English. You should have more confidence and when you are learning a language you will make mistakes, this is part of learning. Where there is a will, there is a way. Besides, you must develop a good way of learning. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask your teacher for help. I’m sure you’ll make great progress in your English very soon.
Yours,
Zhou Hai

Dear Tony,
I am glad to know that you are coming to China. As you know, there are great differences between Chinese culture and American culture. Here I would like to tell some of the differences.
Firstly, when we meet our friend, we say hello to each other as you do in US. But we seldom hug each other. Only intimate lovers will do that in China. Secondly, when we have meals, we should never stick your chopsticks upright in the rice bowl. That is very rude. And never use the chopsticks to knock the tray and the bowl. Chinese think only beggars will do so.
Hope it helps. Look forward to seeing you.
Yours,
Li Ming

Dear parents,
How are you? How time flies! I’ve been in Yunnan for nearly half a month.
All is beautiful here and so are the people. All the year is just like spring, and there are flowers of friendship here and there.
Here’s a big family and we are brothers and sisters. They take good care of me, for they are afraid it can’t fit a friend from the Northeast. So I’m very happy here and you needn’t worry.
Hope you come and visit here after farm work.
Yours loving,
Shang Jia

Dear schoolmate,
I don’t know who you are, but I am really grateful to you. Yesterday, I lost my library card in the playground. I didn’t realize it until I got home after class. I was so upset, because it’s too bothersome to register another one. But today, when I got to school, the guard told me that someone picked my library card and gave it to him. I was so exciting to hear the news. You did not leave your name and I don’t know who you are. I am really appreciated for what you did.
Sincerely yours,
Li Hua

Dear sir,
Thank you for your kindness for offering the piece of land for our school and students. And we hope that we can use it reasonable and satisfy what you think. The arrangement for using the land is as the follows.
Our school is a long history school with a tiny land. This restricts the scale of our teaching, especially for the PE lessons. So we decide to develop the land as a sports land. Half of the land will be used as the football yard with racetrack around. And the left space will be designed for a basketball court while the building will be repaired with the function of a gymnasium.
To achieve this, we will employ a professional company to design and arrange it fully meeting the demand for daily teaching use. Especially for the gymnasium, we hope that it will be newly designed and repaired with a multi-function use. Thus we can use it in a lot of situation, such as basketball, volleyball, gym and so on.
After its completion, the PE teaching can be fully plentiful that the students can enjoy more than ever before. On weekends and vocations, we can open the land to the students and the residents around to do exercises or play at here in order to let more people can get the benefits from here.
So we really appreciate what youve done for us and hope that you can satisfy what weve arranged at the land.
Sincerely yours

Dear Mercy,
How is everythig going! Last time you said you are anxious now because you find it hard to learn English well. Dont worry. I think you have to improve your English step by step. And I will right behind you. In my view, you should develop you interest on English first.
According to my experience, I think watching English movie, listen to some wonderful English songs and talk in English on the Internet would be helpful. Secondly, you have to prepare lessons before class that will help you understand what the teacher says in the class.
I know you feel bored in the class, but you have force yourself to be concentrated. A few days later you will feel it a little easy to learn English. The left steps I will tell next time. By the way, we have not seen each other since your family move to Hunan a year ago. Have you ever thought about going back to visit me and learn English together in the coming Summer vacation.
Looking forward to your reply.
Sincerely yours,
Li Hua

Dear Mr. John,
I am exceedingly(非常) sorry to hear that your father passed away. The painful news reached us this morning, and we were so shocked that we could not at first realize the fact.
This sad news has put me in full sympathy with(深切同情) you. Your father was an honorable man and tender parent. Everybody who has known him must feel a great loss caused by his death. I quite understand how you feel now, but you are in duty bound to(有義務(wù)) look to your own heath and to take care of your family affairs. These would be impossible if you indulge your feeling in grief.
Please accept the deep and true sympathy which is all I can offer.
Yours sincerely,
Li Ming
