We have all faced moments in our lives when the pressure mounts beyond what we feel we can handle, and we find ourselves thinking that we do not have the strength to carry on. Sometimes we have just gotten through a major obstacle or illness only to find another one waiting for us the moment we finally catch our breath. Sometimes we endure one loss after another, wondering when we will get a break from life travails. It does not seem fair or right that life should demand more of us when we feel we have given all we can, but sometimes this is the way life works.
When we look back on our lives, we see that we have survived many trials and surmounted many obstacles, often to our own amazement. In each of those instances, we had to break through our ideas about how much we can handle and go deeper into our hidden reserves. The thought that we do not have the strength to handle what is before us can be likened to the hard surface of a frozen lake. It appears to be an impenetrable fact, but when we break through it, we find that a deep well of energy and inspiration was trapped beneath that icy barrier the whole time. Sometimes we break through by cutting a hole into our resistance with our willpower, and sometimes we melt the ice with passion for our predicament and ourselves. Either way, each time we break through, we reach a new understanding of the strength we store within ourselves.
When we find ourselves up against that frozen barrier of thinking we cannot handle oursituation, we may find that the kindest choice is to love ourselves and our resistance too. Wecan simply accept that we are overwhelmed, exhausted, and stretched, and we can offerourselves loving kindness and passion. If we can extend to ourselves the unconditionalwarmth of a mother love, before we know it, the ice will begin to break.

小時(shí)候我英語(yǔ)學(xué)的不好,憂心的父母把我送到就近的英語(yǔ)培訓(xùn)班學(xué)習(xí)。
從此,我的童年課外學(xué)習(xí)生活從這里開始了。剛開始還好,老師每天用極其溫和的口氣提問(wèn)問(wèn)題;下課了,幾個(gè)同學(xué)肆無(wú)忌憚地在走廊里跑跳、打鬧,還可以下樓去買自己喜歡吃的東西。感覺(jué)過(guò)得很是輕松愉快。但好景不長(zhǎng),隨著時(shí)間的推移和師生間的了解,老師對(duì)我們的要求越來(lái)越嚴(yán)格:作業(yè)要認(rèn)真完成(否則要挨罰寫單詞)、鈴響立即坐好上課、不準(zhǔn)在走廊和教室大聲喧嘩、打鬧。諸多的條條框框讓我感到壓抑,疲憊。在閑暇之時(shí)我關(guān)注一下窗臺(tái)上的含羞草,看它葉子往回縮的時(shí)候,感到十分好奇。課外學(xué)習(xí)越來(lái)越忙碌,但學(xué)習(xí)成績(jī)進(jìn)步不大。
放假時(shí),我一個(gè)人在家做作業(yè)感到很是無(wú)聊。父母把我送到姥姥家,和表哥一起學(xué)習(xí)。表哥比我大三歲,我不會(huì)的問(wèn)題可以向他請(qǐng)教。很快我的假期作業(yè)就寫完了,每天都跟姥姥、老爺去大河壩玩。我和哥哥抓螞蚱:看準(zhǔn)一只螞蚱,悄悄湊上去,手握成拱形,猛地一扣,運(yùn)氣好的話,可以捕到彪肥體檢的大螞蚱;運(yùn)氣不好,不但捕不到螞蚱,還會(huì)傷到手。將捕到的螞蚱放入大飲料瓶中,再往瓶中放些菜葉或青草,瓶壁扎些小孔,用來(lái)通風(fēng)。這樣,螞蚱就有了新家,我也多了一位童年玩伴。后來(lái),我倆開始捉蜻蜓,捉青蛙,捉螞蟻,然后觀察它們的長(zhǎng)相特點(diǎn),動(dòng)作特點(diǎn),情緒變化。很是有趣:我發(fā)現(xiàn)人們的蛙泳果然是跟青蛙學(xué)的,動(dòng)作特點(diǎn)極為相似;螞蟻的力氣大得驚人,能把超過(guò)自身體重幾倍的食物搬回洞里,它們還懂得團(tuán)結(jié)協(xié)作,一人搬不了的食物,會(huì)回家找?guī)褪忠黄饋?lái)搬。遇到危險(xiǎn)或像我這樣的敵人堵截時(shí),也知道害怕,并慌亂逃跑,速度明顯高于平時(shí)散步。觀察它們慌亂逃跑時(shí),我和表哥正吃著小食品,喝著飲料,很是悠閑自得。感覺(jué)它們的逃跑非?尚陀字,相對(duì)他們說(shuō):我們是鬧著玩的,怕什么?
愉快的暑假、緊張的小學(xué)學(xué)習(xí)生活一眨眼就過(guò)去了。童年的趣事已經(jīng)成為我的成長(zhǎng)經(jīng)歷,成為我對(duì)幼時(shí)的美好回憶。
有這么一段令我害怕的故事。至今讓我記憶猶新。
那是在我三四歲的時(shí)候,一天清晨,我一覺(jué)醒來(lái),像往常一樣,叫:“爸爸、媽媽。”平時(shí)他們答應(yīng)一聲,然后趕緊走到我床邊,問(wèn)我是否有尿,是否大便。還是要起床。我要是沒(méi)事,就說(shuō)“沒(méi)事”。我聽到他們答應(yīng),我心里就踏實(shí)了,然后再睡會(huì)兒懶覺(jué)。可是那天我一連叫了五六遍爸爸、媽媽。沒(méi)人應(yīng)答。這下我慌了,立即跳下床,跑到廚房、衛(wèi)生間、臥室,每個(gè)屋子角落我都找了,就是不見(jiàn)爸爸、媽媽的身影。這回我害怕了,忍不住哭了起來(lái)。爸爸媽媽從來(lái)沒(méi)有丟下過(guò)我呀?我哭了一會(huì)兒,屋里除了我的'哭聲,再?zèng)]有其他聲響。我覺(jué)得這樣不行,得想辦法,哭解決不了問(wèn)題。
于是,我決定向鄰居求助。我爬上窗臺(tái),透過(guò)玻璃窗看到了出來(lái)晨練的賈奶奶,我就大叫:“賈奶奶,賈奶奶“。只可惜賈奶奶的耳朵背,平時(shí)說(shuō)話聽起來(lái)都費(fèi)勁,隔著窗戶就更聽不見(jiàn)了。剛發(fā)現(xiàn)的救命稻草很快消失在我的視線中。
爸爸媽媽跟我說(shuō)過(guò)他們的電話號(hào)碼,可我沒(méi)用心記呀!以為用不著,現(xiàn)在真后悔。突然,我想起了一個(gè)熟悉又萬(wàn)能的電話”110“,我拿起電話,撥了110,想跟警察叔叔說(shuō),我被困在屋里了,爸爸媽媽都不在。可是那邊傳來(lái)電腦自動(dòng)語(yǔ)音。要我轉(zhuǎn)人工服務(wù)。我也不會(huì)呀?只得掛了電話。
就在我惶恐不安的心還沒(méi)落地的時(shí)候,外面?zhèn)鱽?lái)急切的敲門聲”收電費(fèi)“。我的心一下子又提到了嗓子眼,是不是壞人呀?媽媽和我說(shuō)過(guò):自己在家,誰(shuí)敲門也不開。我想:要真是壞人,他要撬門進(jìn)來(lái)咋辦?我不敢出聲,心提到了嗓子眼。直到敲了幾次,喊了幾聲沒(méi)人應(yīng)答,那人離去。
爸爸終于回來(lái)了。他說(shuō)媽媽要和姥姥看太姥,把媽媽送到車站,離開時(shí)間并不長(zhǎng),也就半小時(shí)。可我覺(jué)得時(shí)間很長(zhǎng)很長(zhǎng)。爸爸還表?yè)P(yáng)了我:遇到問(wèn)題和險(xiǎn)情知道想辦法求助。對(duì)于幼小的我已是難能可貴。
